SCHOLARSHIP GUIDELINES

 

 

Asphalt Cowboys of Redding, California announces the Asphalt Cowboys Law Enforcement Scholarship.

This Scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior enrolled in any high school, public or private, in Shasta County. And also past Shasta County graduates, Local Explorer Cadets and individuals in an ROP Program, intending on, or being already involved in Law Enforcement programs, not otherwise paid for by Law Enforcement entities. Including, but not limited to, A Post Approved Academy or AOJ/Criminal Justice Program at an accredited college.

Program Guidelines & Priorities:
Seeking individuals with a record of volunteerism in the Shasta County community in non-school sponsored activities and participation in extracurricular school activities.

Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0, plan to attend or are attending a 2 or 4 year college or technical school. In some cases Financial Need may be a consideration. Individuals awarded scholarships under this program must maintain at least a 2.5 GPA while attending. Recipients will be expected to give a presentation of their progress to the Asphalt Cowboys Scholarship Committee at some point during the course term.

Applicants must submit an Essay consisting of a minimum of 1,000 words on the topic:
“How will I use my education for the betterment of my community?”

There will be two (2) Scholarships of $1,000 each paid in this year. Each winner will receive $500 at the beginning of the course and the balance of $500 will be paid upon the successful completion. Scholarship Funds will be paid directly to the educational institute or expense reimbursement will be paid to the recipient after expense has been paid by them (original receipts to be produced), unless other arrangements are made in advance. Remaining funds, if any, will be paid directly to the winner. Applicants must have the endorsement of their Guidance Counselor on their application attesting they are qualified for this scholarship program. Application deadline is December 16, 2023.

The applications will be reviewed and recipients selected by a committee consisting of volunteers.

The Scholarships will be awarded in February of the next year.
